Steven L. Stemerman
Steve joined Davis, Cowell & Bowe in 1975 and has been a partner since 1980, specializing in labor, employment and trust fund matters. He has represented clients before state and federal trial and appellate courts, administrative tribunals as well as in hundreds of private arbitrations.
He was lead counsel in the only class action wrongful termination case ever certified in California. Steve has helped mediate settlements in discrimination and wage class action cases each in excess of a $100 million. Currently, he is one of the counsel in a gender discrimination class action case against WalMart representing a class consisting of two million women, the largest employment class ever certified.
Steve has extensive experience in labor negotiations, having been directly involved in union negotiations in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Hawaii and Texas. He is counsel to numerous employee benefit funds throughout the United States, and has served as interim administrator to a group of benefit funds with assets exceeding five billion dollars.
